Among users of Slovene language, a distance towards the passive voice can be perceived. It originates from linguistic tradition and fear of mistakes, which are often made when using the passive voice. In this thesis, I have thus assembled criteria of passive forms, which would be helpful in its correct and more frequent use. Firstly, I focused on the history of research of the passive voice in Slovene, where I have mostly taken into account Slovene grammars and linguistic dissertations. Then I defined the present conception of the passive voice separately in terms of morphology, where I focused mostly on passive forms, and then in terms of syntax, where I stressed valency in connection to the passive. I also discussed the correct and incorrect use of the passive voice, because not all Slovene linguists agree on the topic. Based on studied material, I have finally assembled the criteria of passive forms in three parts (semantic, morphological, and syntactic) and used them on examples from technical and journalistic texts.
