My thesis covers the field of amateur cinema and eightmillimeter films. In the first part I focus
on the development of amateur and documentary film.
In the second part I analyze old family eightmillimeter films shot by my grandfather between
1964 and 1980, explore wich technology he used and put films into categories.
I continue to define Bill Nichols' modes of documentary representation.
The central and last part of the thesis is a documentary film entitled Two Images of an
Afternoon, where old eightmillimeter films and films made today are mixed. The purpose of
the work is to explore the sensibility of film through stories, narratives and memories.
