Veno Pilon is one of the main representatives of Slovenian expressionism. His work Lakota (Eng. Hunger), a graphic, from 1921, which I shall analyse in my dissertation, is considered to be one of the head pieces of the artist's expressionism. In my dissertation, I have first analysed the form of the art piece and then examined its content. In the end I have placed it into a wider context, during which I looked into the artist's life-especially into the time of creation of the art piece and expressionist movement in Germany and Slovenia. Finally, I highlighted artists and their art works which are similar to Lakota in terms of content. I have decided to analyse this piece while browsing through the catalogue of thePilon gallery, and out of all of his works it was Lakota which grabbed my attention the most. Writing this paper, I have come closer to understanding the artist and his art, and during thorough analysis of the work, I have grown to admire Lakota even more.
