Residues of antibiotics in the environment represent a major concern, due to development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Electrochemical processes are one of the possible removal techniques. The aim of the thesis was to review various electrochemical processes for the removal of antibiotics from wastewater. The most suitable electrochemical processes for the removal of antibiotics are electrochemical oxidation and electrocoagulation. Electrochemical oxidation is the most efficient in removal of antibiotics from water. However, toxic by-products may be formed, especially when using indirect oxidation via active chlorine species.
