Hydrogels are the subject of various studies, mainly due to their ability to retain and release pharmaceutical ingredients, thus allowing the controlled release of these ingredients at a specific site in the body. Research is focused on methods of preparation that would enable the adjustment of the properties of hydrogels to specific methods or areas of use. A promising material for the preparation of natural hydrogels is chitosan, which is biodegradable and biocompatible. Due to its prevalence and simple production it is available in large quantities at low prices. The thesis discusses the influence alginate, cellulose and laponite have on the rheological properties of chitosan hydrogels. Presented are different methods of hydrogel preparation and modified properties, which are the result of the chemical properties and amount of modifier used.
