The diploma thesis “Designing a collection Football of ballerina” presents the research and development process of tailoring a menswear »ready-to-wear« collection comprising clothing and fashion accessories. The collection was inspired by my and my brother’s sports, ballet and football that we have been pursuing since our childhood and have influenced our lives. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I presented the appearance of sportswear in the fashion industry and its impact on modern fashion. I explored the history of ballet costumes and football kits, key turning points in their design, and the impact of these two sports cultures and their clothing on the design of contemporary fashion designers. In the experimental part, I presented a process of designing a modern menswear clothing collection which represents the intertwinement of both sports cultures and elements of their characteristic clothing. I have developed a series of humorous collages and quotes that link both sports. Further, I upgraded my clothing collection with a line of sustainable bags. The result of the diploma thesis is a menswear “ready-to-wear” collection which in a playful way reflects the main characteristics of ballet and football culture, and connects them in a modern interpretation of wearable clothing for men.
