The purpose of the diploma thesis was to form and construct a prototype of a learning
bench made of various Slovene wood species along with a learning board. The bench
is meant for learning about wood species and their use in the outdoor environment.
An overview of different versions of urban equipment at home and abroad was made,
and it helped to collect the most important information to form and construct the
wooden learning bench. Additionally, the appropriate standards were also checked.
Constructive documentation (3D models) was made with a software tool called
SolidWorks. The bench was evaluated and compared with selected existing benches.
Wooden elements of the bench carry didactic inscriptions with the names of the wood
species used. The benches are formed in a way to be compatible with each other. The
following wood species were used for the construction of the bench: sweet chestnut,
common oak, durmast oak, false acacia, European larch and Norway spruce. There
are also two types of learning boards: one is for children (they can spin the wooden
elements and learn about wood and trees) and the other for adults (it consists of
interesting and useful facts about tree species). All wooden elements were adequately
processed with wood preservatives. The prototype of the bench was printed with a
3D printer.
