Wood in outdoor applications is exposed to biotic and abiotic factors of degradation. To protect it biocidal products, significantly extending the service life of wood, should be used. Besides efficacy, fixation is the second most important criterium for high quality formulation. In demanding conditions, predominately copper biocides are applied for the protection of wood They are supplemented with appropriate chemicals enabling fixation. Previously chromium compounds were used, but nowadays copper substances are combined with ethanolamine predominately. Fixation of copper and chromium compounds was determined according to 3 different standard procedures: CEN/TS 15119-1:2008, CEN/TS 15119-2:2008, and ENV 1250-2:1994. Procedures are very selective, and the amount of leached copper is related to the duration and intensity of leaching.
