In this master thesis we first focused on the suitability of a reciprocating piston pump for oil extraction. Testing has shown that the pump is suitable for this task. We have also tried to determine which type of non-return valve has the best efficiency, through experimental and analytical analysis. We found these to be piston check valves. We assumed that a shorter opening time of the check valve also mean a higher effective flow, but this was not the case. We also tested Tesla's valve, which produced some interesting results, but further analysis is required to fully understand how it works.
