There is a general description of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) and black forest mushroom, known as shiitake mushroom, (Lentinula edodes), including information on therapeutic efficacy of fungi, history of their use and the environmental significance of fungi. Laboratory work was carried out at Slovenian forestry institute where all procedures' phases were done before the actual start of mushroom growing in the home environment. Field work was carried out in Sveti Tomaž and Trgovišče, villages near Ptuj. Two different locations for mushroom growing were chosen, a basement room and a shady area of the garden. After two months the first signs of successful infection of the log with mushroom spawn were sighted. First mushrooms appeared after six months, on the log infected with mushroom spawn spreaded over cereal grains. The log was placed in the basement. On the other logs there were no mushrooms friutbodies in 2014, eventhough the signs of infection were seen clearly. In spring 2015, eight months after inoculation of logs, fungi appeared on two logs that were placed in the shady area of the garden. In the basement there were mushrooms growing on all logs. Differences between overgrowth were notable, because the oyster mushroom had about three times more crop than shiitake. Oyster mushroom is more accountable to our weather, because it is naturally widespread in Slovenian forests. Beechwood is more suitable for the cultivation of oyster mushroom.
