The diploma Prežihov's Samorastniki: from novella to film, from bastard’s mother to a heroine discusses the novella by Prežihov Voranc Samorastniki and eponymous movie directed by Igor Pretnar. The first half of the diploma mostly gathers some key facts and observations about the process of adaptation of a book to screen and classification of the novella and the film Samorastniki. After that follows a comparison of the characters between those in the novella and in the film with some observation how those characters changed in the film.
In the second part of the diploma I mostly focused on the women’s role in Slovenian film and once again focused on the central character from the novella Samorastniki, Meta. I particularly discussed her role as a mother, her evolution from an unwed mother to a fighter for her rights and reasons why she became such an important an unique character for Slovenian audience.
