Purpose and goals: The purpose of the thesis is to find out if there are differences in the occurrence of alicyclic movements between the playing positions in the phases of the attack and defence at Men’s Handball World Championship 2019. The goals are to analyse the chosen matches at the championship, to collect the data about alicyclic movements when there is defence and when there is attack and to statistically analyse them. With the results of the test statistics that we had analysed, we found out what differences regarding the playing positions occur.
Methodology: The sample of the matches includes nine Men’s Handball World Championship 2019 matches happening in Germany and Denmark. We collected the data by watching the footages of the matches and checked them with the official statistics of the matches. That way we got 18 defences and 18 attacks out of 9 matches. We statistically analysed the data with IBM SPSS 21 program (SPSS Inc. Chicago, Illinois, USA) and tabularly organised them in Microsoft Excel (Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington). The variables of the performance were presented by averages, standard deviations and by the standard mistakes of the averages. The assumption of the distribution’s normality of the latter variables was checked with Shapiro-Wilko test and the homogeneity of the variants with Leven test. On the basis of the mainly violated normality assumption of the distribution, we tested the differences between the playing positions in the attack or defence according to the playing performance with Kruskall-Wallis test. In case of finding out the characteristic differences, we executed pairwise comparison of the individual pairs of playing positions.
The findings of the thesis: The test statistics showed that there are statistically characteristic differences between the playing positions in the phase of the attack and defence in the following variables: the number of jump shootings, the number of standing shootings, the number of shootings from tricks, the number of shootings from breakthroughs, the number of shooting from 7-metre throws, the number of shootings while falling, the number of passes for a goal shot, the number of run-ups for a goal shot, the number of lost balls, the number of dribbles, the number of gained 7-metre throws, the number of standing passes, the number of jump passes, the number of alicyclic movements in the attack, the number of penalties, the number of ousts, the number of blockings, the number of stolen balls, the number of caused 7-metre penalties, the number of 2-minute penalties, the number of alicyclic movements performed in defence.
