Master‘s thesis is the basic starting point for professional geological bases for the Nature Museum of Bela krajina. There are presented six selected sedimentary environments that describe the main environments of Bela krajina rock formation. Bela krajina is a karst landscape dominated by Mesozoic carbonates. Selected sedimentary environments are the Upper Triassic intertidal plains, the Lower Jurassic lagoon environment, the Upper Jurassic coral-stromatoporoid reefs, the Lower Cretaceous reef and postreef environments, the Upper Cretaceous flysch development and the Miocene and Pliocene swamp. For all rock sequences of selected sedimentary environments, there is made a correlation with rock sequences of the same age in Slovenia as well as in Croatia, as well as proposals for the presentation of individual sedimentary environments. The Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous sedimentary environments are described in more detail, since they are the least studied in the area of Bela Krajina. There has been a more detailed research for the rocks of these environments – recorded sedimentological profiles of the Lower Jurassic age at the scale of 1:50, schematic reconstruction of the quarry was made, where the Lower Cretaceous limestones with rudists occur, and the microfacial and micropaleontological analysis of the taken rock samples was made. According to the analyzes, we could conclude that sedimentary environments from individual geological periods are comparable or coincide with other general geological developments in the area of the former Dinaric Carbonate Platform.
The professional basis will be an important basis for the pictorial and content presentation of sedimentary environments, which will give visitors of the museum a clear and interesting insight into the geological past and development of the territory of the present-day Bela Krajina.
