Public libraries play an important role in providing and transmission of heath information resources. They also contribute to health promotion and health literacy of their users. The purpose of the thesis is a case study of the users of medical literature in France Bevk Public Library Nova Gorica, as well as to obtain an opinion about the influence that public libraries have on gaining health literacy skills and improving health literacy. The goal of the thesis is to provide in-depth profile information about the users of medical literature in France Bevk Public Library, Nova Gorica, and to identify their information needs through the characteristics of searching for the resources of health information. When researching the profile of the medical literature user in France Bevk Public Library Nova Gorica, I conducted a survey and processed statistical data of borrowing medical literature in the years between 2010 and 2015. The opinions about public libraries' influence on health literacy were obtained by the survey conducted in Maribor Public Library, Ljubljana City Library- Oton Župančič Library, which implements the project "Health Corner". The survey results indicate that female employees dominate among users of health information resources. They generally borrow this kind of literature for preventive purposes. Interest in the medical literature in equal measure includes literature with alternative and official medical topics. The results of the thesis could indicate ways of improving libraries' purchasing policy towards broadening the supply of sources of health information and planning new activities for the promotion of health.
