Emotional labour represents the main part of work of all employees in service sector, specially in nursing sphere. The aim of my master thesis was to research if emotional labour of nursing staff effects the stress. The empirical part of my thesis was based on two focus groups in which ten employees from Retirement home Ajdovščina participated. With the help of focus groups I have researched if emotional labour of nursing staff effects the stress, if the employess are overwhelmed because of lack of staff and how expressing emotions according to social norms effects employees. I also wanted to know how many occupants every employee has per day, what is the most important at their work by their opinion, how they overcome the overwhelm and exposure to stress, if they are satisfied with their work. The aim of my thesis was also to find out if the employer helps the employees with confronting and defeating stress and in what ways. Results showed that emotional labour of nursing staff does not affect the occurance of stress. Two focus groups showed that the stress of nursery staff is caused mainly because of overload of quantity of work, which is a result of lack of staff.
