The purpose of this Master's thesis was to present a general opinion on the inclusion of taboo topics in puppet performances for children. Three performances, which were created on the basis of picture books, were included in our analysis, Goose the Bear, Jack and Jim and Duck, Death and the Tulip. All performances were staged in the last five years in Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, due to topics that they talk about, they provoke a lot of interest and response. Ivana Djilas in her performances talks about differentness, accepting/rejecting one another, overcoming stereotypes, erasing differences, coexisting, tolerance … On the other hand, Italian director Fabrizio Montecchi portrays death and individual's attitude towards it. I analyzed picture books and puppet shows, especially in close association with previously mentioned taboo topics. I have also presented various opinions on the inclusion of such topics in children's books and preformances, including the opinion of the artistic director of Ljubljana Puppet Theatre Ajda Rooss, director Ivana Djilas, educators who completed the quesionnaire prepared for them. There are also opinions from pyshological workers, writers of pedagogical materials and playbills.
