Populism is a phenomenon that, in the last years, appears often when we are talking about politics in everyday life and in expert literature. But, it is often confused with other ideologies, demagougery and a simple rethorical style. It is the same in slovenian space where there is a disagreement who is populist and who is not. In this work I will be validating two hypotheses: populism in Slovenia has all characteristics according to the definition of Mudde and populism in Slovenia plays an important role. In the first part I will describe what populism is and what distinguishes it from other phenomenons that often accompany it. Through a main definition, proposed by Cas Mudde and other authors I will shed a light on its basic elements and look through some of the more important research done in this field. In the second part I will, with the help of previously established theory, inspect populism in three slovenian political parties that show affinity to populism and their influence in the slovenian political space.
