This bachelor’s thesis entitled »Use of Germanisms among Primary School Students in Domžale« deals with understanding and use of nonstandard Germanisms amongst students in the 2nd and 9th grade of primary school. Germanisms are loanwords from the German language and are a consequence of cultural-linguistic contact between German and Slovene. Germanisms are fully adapted in writing, pronunciation and syntax to the target language, in this case Slovene, while the foreign words still retain their original characteristics. The use of Germanisms was researched with sociolinguistic methods. For the empirical part of my thesis I have collaborated with the Primary School Rodica in Domžale where students from the 2nd and 9th grade filled out a questionnaire on the topic of recognizing Germanisms. The aim of my bachelor’s thesis is to find out the ratio between those students who recognize and use loanwords from the German language and those who do not, and whether they are aware of the loanword origins and most importantly, to establish if they know (any) Slovene synonyms for certain Germanisms.
