Due to the more affordable price of subsidized bus tickets, the number of bus users is increasing, which often results in a shortage of seats or buses. The purpose of the diploma thesis was to design a prototype of a mobile application which would predominantly be used by students and would include the option of seat reservation. Consequently, the bus carriers would know the approximate number of passengers, which would help them better organize the number of a required busses.
In the beginning of a diploma thesis we have carried out the interviews, based on which we have identified typical users, defined the user persona, priorities and the content of a mobile application. Based on the conceptual design, we have developed wireframe models. Graphic templates were then created with the Adobe Illustrator program, and the first prototype application was developed using the Justinmind prototyper software.
The prototype was tested with the eye tracker. Based on the analysis of eye tracking, we optimized the structure and colours used in the application. With the intent of gamification, we have added buttons to connect with social networks, which would help inform users about the positive environmental aspects of public transport.
We have found that mobile application evaluation is very important in the early stages of development, as it enables a more efficient and faster optimization of the product.
