B.Sc. degree paper includes a literature review regarding state of the art concept of bioconcrete. Concrete plays an indispensable role in many fields, but it has a high tendency to form cracks in fresh or hardened state. Bioconcrete would eliminate this disadvantage, since it has the ability of self-heling. Bioconcrete is a concrete into which healing agent, consisting of bacteria and organic nutrients, is added during the preparation process. In the literature, researchers’ opinions differ which type of bacteria and organic nutrients are the most effective and which embedment in concrete matrix is the best. However, they all strive to make the concrete more solid and durable, since the healing agent also affects concrete’s mechanical properties. By reviewing this topic, the thesis provides the basis for further studies on the subject of bioconcrete.
