As a part of the diploma thesis at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Ljubljana, an anion exchange chromatography system with conductometric detection was introduced. The system performed analyses of real samples in which we determined: fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulphate ions.
The ion chromatography method was also partially validated, as we studied linearity and determined LOD and LOQ. We determined the suitability or the influence of the chromatographic conditions such as: flow and composition, pH and age of the eluent.
The experimental work also included the regeneration of the column, which was aimed at reducing the peak asymmetry of the peaks, the proper separation of the peaks belonging to the phosphate and sulphate ions, and to eliminate the retention time delays.
