The concept of my thesis is based on an avant-garde modernistic artwork by Kazimir Malevich, Black Square, 1915, Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, so I first present the origin and the meaning of this artwork as well as other referring works, which are crucial for understanding Black Square. Furthermore I describe the two ways of artistic articulation from the realistic and mimetic world into the symbolic and abstract world, realized in the field of visual art. In short I also present the key characteristics and features of geometric abstraction and enclose my own artworks, connected with the idea of geometric abstraction. I then go into details with the presentation of the graphic models of modernism, which are crucial for Malevich’s idea of Black Square and my own artworks. At the end I use the knowledge, information and findings about the idea of Black Square itself, which I acquired during my writing of the thesis to create my own artworks.
