The poster is a printed sheet of paper designed for advertising purpose, set up on the public areas which are provided for advertising. The role of the poster is to attract the attention of the observers and inform them. We use it for a variety of advertising and promotion purposes: for various events, theatre shows, concerts, movies, but also for the purpose of propaganda (eg.political).
Illustrations and typography, all the way to the triumphal developement of photography and digital visual techniques in the 20th century, were the only expressive means of posters. The photo inherited the illustrations and has been dominant visual expression in design for decades, but today we re-record the wider use of illustrations. It acts as a poetic, expressive and highly independent discipline of design.
Along with improving of techniques of filming and screening, and along with developement of film and film industry, a film poster developed. Along with the film´s voicing by using megaphone, the film poster was the only way to promote the film.
In addition to its primary role, the poster is a document of its timeand it carries with it the whole historical, social and cultural background, which is a sufficiant reason to understand how this »street art« has reaches its collector´s value in the nineteens.
Based on the research of the film posters, I have approached this project from the author's point of view, and bypassing the guidelines dictated by the film industry. I think The Twilight Zone series demands such a poster, because of its uniqueness, the entire unusual, abstract themes, and a kind of artistic interpretation on small sceenes.
