The subject of the present master's thesis is the embeddedness of a company in the local environment. The study focuses on the company of Domel, located in the Municipality of Železniki, which is an example of a local environment. The institutional approach in economic geography examines the impact of institutions on the economy. In economic geography the concept of embeddedness, otherwise deriving from economic sociology, appears as well. The concept is based on the view that economic activities are interwoven with social and political systems.
Domel is the largest company in the Municipality of Železniki and provides the local residents with numerous jobs. In the master’s thesis its embeddedness is examined through six types of embeddedness: temporal, spatial, social, political, market, and technological. Each individual type is defined by factors studied through a system of indicators. The values for indicators are obtained through literature, surveys conducted with the company’s employees, and two interviews.
