The diploma thesis deals with the representation of homosexuality and homophobia in a contemporary novel and contemporary film, and the impact that these two products have on the development of public opinion on this topic. In the theoretical part, the concepts that directly touch the subject are presented, and as such they are necessary for understanding the representation in film, novel, and in society. The theoretical and analytical part binds the common basis of the media representation of homosexuality in the Slovenian media, through which I carry out its analysis. The analysis showed that homosexuality in the film and novel is very similar - mostly with the mystery and the smallest with stereotyping and sexualization. The homosexual film and literary industry are moving towards society. This tells us about a new age of film and a novel that leaves behind all the unnecessary representations of homosexuality permeated with stereotypes, homophobia, violence, contempt, ridicule, and comedy. Homosexual cinema and literature are struggling for positive and realistic representations of homosexuality, and in this case, we would be able to take advantage of the mass media to inform the public, because only through knowledge can we achieve tolerance.
