Donald Trump is the fourth president in the history of the United States, who won the presidential election, despite losing the popular vote. He decided to run for office precisely at the right moment and promised the voters everything they wanted to hear; the return of jobs from abroad, the control and destruction of terrorism, the restriction of immigrants and etc. He introduced himself as a savior or as someone who will make America great again. Donald Trump was known for his burning temperament and controversial statements, so the media had to report about him, because he was giving them ratings. With their help he got free publicity which helped him to win the elections. With the help of social networks he created the image of a sincere candidate, reached the necessary donors and share the negative advertising of the opponent Hillary Clinton. In the thesis we analyzed Donald Trump's election campaign, his relationship with the media and tried to find out why such a result of the presidential election had occurred. We provided the answers to two research questions; the first question is whether the media played a key role in the victory of Donald Trump, while the other question is whether was the Trump presidential campaign in the majority built on the populist rejection of corporate, cultural and political elites. In the first part of the diploma, we learn about the American electoral system, the course of the elections and the Trump campaign, while the second part shows us the relationship Trump held with the media and how they influenced his victory. The final part of the paper describes the findings and the conclusion on research issues.
