The purpose of the thesis is to forge a Damascus steel knife. The emphasis was on knife design both in terms of originality of the shape and the sample of the blade. In addition to the design, we were interested in the quality and strenght of welds between the individual layers created by the pattern-welding process. The theoretical part consists of the presentation of two different processes of Damascus steel forging, the description of the CK75 and 90MnCrV8 steel, a description of the forging process and a description of the methods used in the experimental work. Under the results and discussion section are combined, all the results of analysis and measurements and their interpretation. We found that the material from which we made the knife is subject to a fragile fracture. The individual layers of steel were differently deformed during forging, with better welds on the joints between the different steel than on the joints between the individual lamellas of the same steel.
