Handball is one of the most popular sports in both Slovenia and the world. We classify it in a group of polistructural complex sports, as the game consists of many motor structural units which are performed with or without a ball. Complexity is another essential feature of the handball. It is not only determined with factors that force the players in the team to succeed, but also with the game of the opponent. All motor structures in the game are executed under specific conditions in the presence of the opponents and rules of the game.
Wing players are the ones who play on the sides of handball court during the attack. The area where they are positioned does not give them a possibility to shot from distance, therefore they do it mostly by jumping into goalkeeper's space using various shots and directions of jump. The position of the wing player is very specific, but with changes in the rules, the game become quicker and along with it came the opportunity for smaller, but quick and agile players, such as wing players (Šibila, 2004).
The purpose of diploma thesis was to analyze the way of shooting from wing positions that was used by Slovenian team and their opponents during the 2017 Handball World Championship in France. For this purpose, the shots will be firstly systematically categorized based on the literature, and if necessary, novelties will be added if they are observed in the analyzed matches. We are going to thoroughly analyze the matches and try to determine in what part of the goal the wing players most often shoot from their position and the effectiveness of these shots. A comparison will also be made between all shots from wing position executed by Slovenian players and their opponents.
