In my master thesis, I studied systems for the detection of secondary gamma rays in proton therapy. I analyzed two types of detectors, a gamma camera and a Compton camera.
I simulated the flow of the protons through a phantom made of water. Secondary gamma rays have been emitted. Those gamma rays have been used for testing and verification of various implementations of gamma ray detector.
I compared and evaluated detection systems using common criteria. I came to the conclusion that three layer Compton camera has similar quality of the image as gamma camera. In both cases a resolution 2 mm can be achieved.
