Language Realisation in the Lexical Field »Plant : Fruit«
The following master thesis discusses descriptions of randomly choosen collection of plants and their fruits in German and Slovenian language, who are, who were, and who will be, as an outcome of globalisation, a part of our lifes. The intention of this master thesis is a detailed analyse and a survey of similarity and influence of German languge on Slovenian when it comes to word formation. This shows us through word formation patterns. In the first part it starts with a briefly chapter of lexicology, where it predominantly defines the basic terminology and with a short overview of the terms from the botany field. It ends with a chapter of theory of word formation, which is the most important part for understanding the practical part of this master thesis.
Second part is dedicated to descriptions of 45 randomly choosen plants and their fruits with their names. The mentioned collection of plants (and their fruits) was organized and arranged according to different word patterns with the help of the dictionaries (SSKJ, DUDEN Online Wörterbuch), dictionaries of botanical terminology in Slovenian as also in German language. There is also a special theory of word formation patterns for naming these plants and their fruits. The word formation patterns for the naming of choosen plants are very similar, in some cases also identical (for example Nektarine, nektarina), which is, in all probability and from the cultural point of view, the result of many years of German influence on Slovenian language and vice versa. As we can see from the following, the German language is much more structured and organised as the Slovenian language. German language has more compound words and in the Slovenian language there are derivates who predominate.
This randomly choosen collection was for the sake of the orderliness arranged into a table; every single plant and fruit is named. Somewhere there are two names for the same plant, the official and the unofficial name (synonym); this count as one plant.
