It is safe to say that packaging is becoming more and more important part of our lives. It increasingly gains importance nowadays. Food packaging is particularly important and the emphasis is placed on the selection of packaging materials that are suitable for contact with foodstuffs, which was also the topic of the bachelor’s thesis. In the bachelor’s thesis, the focus was on cardboard and polymeric packaging of sweets in confectionery.
The theoretical part of the bachelor’s thesis starts with a general presentation of packaging. It continues with the presentations of different types, functions, and new trends in packaging with a more detailed presentation of the advantages and disadvantages of cardboard and polymer packaging. The theoretical part ends with the presentations of the criteria and standards which the packaging must meet to be suitable for food packaging. The experimental part of the bachelor’s thesis is focused on the testing of some basic and physical characteristics of the selected packaging materials, cardboard, and biaxially oriented polystyrene sheet (BOPS). The impact strength with the ball burst method, tensile properties, temperature stability, and wettability with water were determined. In the chapter results and discussion, the results of the testing are presented. With the use of the Adobe Illustrator, a new cardboard packaging was designed which could replace the existing BOPS polymeric packaging in the Košak confectionery.
