The author of the theses tried to show up the contrasts and clashes that come about when you transfer the ancient Trojan epic to Hollywood big screen, specifically Homer's Illiad and Troy directed by Wolfgang Petersen (2004) which retells most of the main events through the medium, through the eyes of the protagonists, with the focus on characterisation. Character and story are inextricably entwined and film ( and every retelling ) involves a new take on both, new angles on the heroes' thoughts, speech/decisions, actions. The author also looked for reasons why film-makers would need or want to change ancient myth. How relevant is Greek myth to a modern audience? Is it still Greek myth in a totally new form?
