Different games have always been children’s favorite activities because they give them the feeling of pleasure, amusement and strength. Through them each child can develop in different fields, learn new things about himself, his abilities and build relationships. I decided to dedicate my diploma to researching games of the past and introduce them to first grade pupils, so they would know them and show them to their friends. In order for children to truly embrace these games, they were presented through numerous projects.
Attention devoted to learning is the base for my theoretical part of the diploma. Learning is supposed to be most successful when it is actively related to research, collecting information, editing data and solving individual problems. Active learning is closely connected to project work, which enables people with different knowledge and experience to engage, gain cognitive progress, upgrade experiences, build concepts and visualizations and gain confidence. The second part of the theoretical work is devoted to the meaning and importance of games for the development of a child’s personality in which creativity, imagination and freedom are developed.
The empirical part includes a record of the project of heritage preservation of old children’s games, which was carried out with the active participation of children. Description of performed activities and the course of the project work are presented. Evaluation of the project is based on the assessment of work and findings, which confirms research is an excellent motivation for learning and children’s participation. It encourages them to find needed information, discover new ideas, learn to collaborate, solve problems and contribute their individual share to reach common goal. This project also shows the codependence, necessity and beauty of intergenerational cooperation.
