Food is humanity's necessity, and it’s essential for surviving. For that it needs to be appreciated and we should prevent food waste. One of the main reasons for huge food loses are insects that infest packaged food. In our research we focused on problem of insects in packaged food. This master's thesis includes the process of planning, construction and testing of improved pasta packaging. In addition to making our own pasta packaging, we got in touch with company Aki Izlake, and asked them to make a sample of packaging they produce. We wanted to compare it with ours and test anti insect capabilities of both. In theoretical section we presented general information about packaging, everything from history, to materials used and functions it has. After that we have presented the state of current research in field of anti-insect packaging. We included scientific articles from some of the world's most renowned researchers in this area of expertise. Research of anti-insect packaging mainly focuses around plant's essential oils as the main substance to prevent insects from infesting packaged food. In the experimental section we realized our plans and we constructed our own pasta packaging. To do this, we firstly had to select the most appropriate material for construction. We prepared several different tests for three samples of cardboard, and at the end we selected the most durable one. After material was selected, we drew a blueprint of packaging in the software and we cut it on a digital cutter. Packaging samples were tested at University of Molise in Italy, in order to test packaging resistance to insect penetration. The analysis of anti-insect resistance lasted for 15 days. As it was discovered, our packaging proved successful at the test, as less insects were able to penetrate it than the original pasta packaging. This result proves that our packaging brought an improvement to the field of anti-insect pasta packaging.
