Modern tennis began to develop in the second half of the 19th century in England, and after 1876, it expanded even beyond the British Isles across Europe and the world. At the same time, major competitions were organised, for example Wimbledon held in England (Collins, 2010).
Today, the biggest tennis events are Grand Slam tournaments played in America, England, France and Australia. The Roland-Garros Tournament is the biggest tennis tournament on the clay courts in Paris, the capital of France.
The goal of the graduation thesis is to describe the beginnings of tennis, the history of tennis competitions in Roland Garros and collect data about the development and competition of one of the biggest tennis tournaments in the world. When writing my diploma thesis, I used a descriptive method. I used different literature in Croatian, Slovenian, French and English.
