Family houses and holiday cottages that are spread around Slovenian countryside are for
many people an ideal place to live in a peaceful environment. Despite beautiful landscape,
many are taking wastewater irresponsibly and incorrectly. This is where my research about
constructed wetland began. I examined how this device would work on a northeast
countryside of Slovenia, in a town called Slovenske Konjice.
Constructed wetland is an artificially made system of patches with different sorts of plants
that grow in swamps. Besides the beautiful and well maintained surrounding that we get with
a constructed wetland, water is cleaned naturally, so we can dispose it irreproachably back
to nature. Managing this kind of device for a family in a countryside is very good, simple and
affordable solution. In my thesis I presented optimal size and sort of constructed wetland. I
also determined kinds of plants that work the best. Because the house is located on a
countryside, where some swamp plants grow, this is a great example how to transfer a part
of life from nature to a controlled environment of a constructed wetland.
