The purpose of the analytical research section of this thesis is firstly to define what an illustration is. This definition will then be used to analyse the illustrated book Stories from Lom. Mrs Angela Jan’s childhood stories will then be placed in a historical and geographical context and furthermore, the social conditions around the village Topolšica during the middle of the 20th century will also be analysed. Since the stories use several words from the local dialect, the characteristics of the dialect in the central Savinjska region, where the stories take place, will be examined as well. In the practical section of this thesis, we will build the concept, research expressive techniques, set the size of the illustrations, research the symbolic meaning of colours through history and in different cultures and produce the actual illustrations. The end product will be a book of stories with illustrations.
