The elderly have witnessed great changes and developments in their lives, but the development of information communication technologies (ICTs) has had the strongest impact on their life in recent time. With the development of ICTs, smartphones have also developed and changed. The elderly have the biggest problems adopting this new technology as they are not familiar with it. Based on a review of the literature on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and empirical research, the purpose of this thesis is to determine the impact of technological anxiety on the acceptance of smartphones among the elderly. The results of linear regression analysis run on data obtained through a representative telephone survey, carried out by the Centre for Social informatics in 2015, show that technological anxiety has no statistically significant effect on the acceptance of smartphones among the elderly who are not using smartphones, but it has an effect among the elderly who are using smartphones. However, it has been found that both educational attainment and chronological age have a statistically significant influence on the acceptance of smartphones among the elderly who are not using smartphones. On the other hand, educational attainment and chronological age had no statistically significant influence among the elderly who are using smartphones in Slovenia.
