The purpose of our diploma thesis was to create a presentation brochure which is intended for owners of small animals, more precisely to owners of dogs and cats. The brochure provides us in an interesting and transparent way useful information about responsible ownership and handling animals.
The diploma work consists of theoretical and experimental work. In the theoretical part we studied brochures, stated the purposes and types of brochures, and what kind of binding exist for them. We mentioned how to start designing a brochure and
which are the most widely used digital printing techniques on the market. We explain what exactly desktop publishing is and which programs are used for this work, with focus on the program QuarkXPress. At the end of the series, we also examine veterinary brochures similar to ours and how the project Creative path to practical knowledge works.
In the experimental part, we first describe the methods and materials which we used while designing. Then we describe how the brochure was designed step by step. We begin by choosing the basic settings of the document in the program. Later we focus on the design of the cover page, the sample pages, used color palettes, typography and image material used in design. Discussion is finished with processing the possible fixes.
The result of the work is a presentation brochure entitled Healthy as a Dog and Cat, which is available in physical printed form at selected veterinarians or in digital form on the web pages of animal clinics and veterinary faculty.
