Graphic products such as a personal planner require careful planning of the visual concept including the needs of the target group and the graphic finishing process. The purpose of the thesis is to design a personal student planer about their needs and with a unique visual image that is created through a unique cover and binding technique with an open back. A prior analysis of the market in Slovenia and abroad in the field of planners was made. Additionally, an analysis of literature on graphic design, graphic finishing and especially on hand bookbinding was made. The visual concept of the planner is based on a questionnaire in connection with the analysis of the current market on planners and handed out to the target group – students. For the hand bookbinding of the planner primary and secondary bookbinding materials were used, that are suitable for using for a one-year period. Also suitable hand bookbinding tools were used. As the result of the thesis a planner was handmade, that serves as a tool for planning school and other obligations. The planner includes decorative elements such as an elastic for closing, a storage pocket, a carton ruler and stickers. They enable multifunctional use of the planer and a unique planning style. Because of the uniquely designed cover, every planner can be adapted. In case of optimizing the binding process, as hand bookbinding is a long and expensive process, the planner could be offered as a gift for Faculties and Student Services. The design of the planer also offers an option of digitalization and optimization for a mobile app.
