This BA thesis describes the process of designing a usable and comfortable chair made of glass and wood. It outlines the specifics of both materials and how they can
be integrated into a concept of a chair. The main goal was to design an aesthetically pleasing and useful product that would be made exclusively out of these two materials. I was striving to push my limits as a designer, creating a handmade product in a limited amount of time based on a concept that I had developed in my mind.
The paper starts by looking into the history of chairs, which had a strong symbolic meaning in the past, and the basics of ergonomic design. This is followed by an overview of the characteristics of glass and wood, and specifically laminated glass and American oak as the materials chosen as the most appropriate given the circumstances. The practical part of the thesis then describes the process of making the product and the challenges encountered.
