The theme of this thesis focuses on visual art space in abstract expressionism. Abstract expressionism represents the art style that has developed in America after Second World War and is considered the first American art style. Non-objective art uses only a visual language for expression, which is composed of basic artistic elements and principles. The syntactic level of the visual language plays an important role in abstract rendering. Objects and images from the visual world are replaced with surfaces, shapes, lines, and colours in abstract works. The layout of the colour field changes, and because of it, we meet different (new at that time) techniques of the color application on the canvas. Abstract expressionism emphasizes the importance of spontaneity and gestural painting, by which the abstract expressionism depicts the feelings of the painter on canvas. In order for an artist to visualize these feelings, the work needs to rely on spatial keys and rules, since they are the basis for the design and construction of the visual composition and the illusion.
