The aim of this thesis was to design and implement LabVIEW software package for testing in-wheel electric motors at different environmental conditions. The software was implemented as an add-on to the already existing program which is used for controlling the mechanical operation of in-wheel electric motors. The operation of the program was tested during the motor load cycle which was performed at different environmental temperature and relative humidity settings.
The first part of the thesis describes the development of electrical propulsion technology in the automotive industry, as well as the advantages of the in-wheel motors over central electric motors.
In the second part, the structural and functional description of the measurement station for testing electric motors is given. The climatic chamber and the cooling system are an integral part of the measuring system and are connected to the control computer through a RS-232 interface.
The last part of the thesis describes the procedure for testing continuous operating point of in-wheel motors in accordance with the standards. The execution and the results obtained during testing at two combinations of environmental and cooling system temperatures are presented.
